Alonso: McLaren will raise its head in 2019

Fernando Alonso will have had a very difficult final season in F1 with the stable McLaren. Before his last Grand Prix contested this weekend on the Yas Marina circuit in Abu Dhabi, the double world champion was only able to finish in the points on 9 occasions, his last Top 10 dating back to Singapore where he recorded a 7th place.

Despite this disappointing season, the one who will continue to defend the interests at the Indy 500 next May is confident in the abilities of the British team to bounce back next year.

“It’s something private in the team, explained the Asturian quoted on the F1 website. We took certain directions in this project but we did not obtain the expected results. Some compromises were made on the car with high hopes in terms of performance. They did not come and we only had the negative side of the choices adopted. The next season should therefore be much better and the lesson has been learned. »

“Since July, we have tested elements that will be used next year, added the Spaniard. There is optimism in the team with the development direction taken over the past few months. We understood the problems. Last year's car was competitive in terms of chassis. We know that we have lost performance, in particular by studying GPS data to study cornering speeds. The team should be in a much better place next year. »

Fernando Alonso was not unworthy however as he is still in 10th place in the Championship after a successful start to the year including 5 consecutive points finishes, surpassing his teammate Stoffel Vandoorne by 38 units.

“This year has been my best season in terms of fighting for qualifications. I think we're at 19-0. This is something I have never managed to do in my career. This makes me feel competitive and fast”, said the McLaren driver.

The Woking team will have a new crew next year by recruiting Carlos Sainz Jr alongside the rookie Lando Norris.
