Alonso thinks F1 rules vary from driver to driver

The pilot Alpine did not mince his words in Istanbul during a press conference where he showed himself faithful to his character as an attacker.

Alonso thinks F1 rules vary from driver to driver

In the ocean of mawkish statements that usually sweep through Thursday media days in Formula 1, he is a customer that we enjoy meeting again. Because the guy is not the type to keep his tongue in his pocket.

It's about this good old Fernando Alonso, still fresh after 40 years. Still starving. Still so determined. And still so uplifted. Like Don Quixote, the proud Iberian slays injustice with the energy of the tireless righter of wrongs.

But the vigilante also knows how to be a trickster. As evidenced by his departure during the last Russian Grand Prix, marked by a superb straight-on, full throttle in the escape route at the first braking. Alonso scrupulously respected the instructions of the race direction in Sochi by passing between the pins placed at the end of the relief zone but he clearly gained ground in the maneuver.

The Asturian had repeated the action before the Russian event, a sign that the double world champion really leaves nothing to chance.

The episode did not fail to cause discussion, mainly to applaud Alonso's cunning, and it was still on the menu of pre-race discussions at the Turkish GP. That's good, that was the objective sought by the pugnacious Spaniard.

« This confirms the fact that when I do something, the behaviors are different and there are repercussions during the next event, said Alonso with his usual dark look.

After that, maybe they will change the runoff zones on several first turns.

I was the joke turkey most of the time in such a situation. I was overtaken several times while passing outside the limits of the track during the first half of the season.

I remember the two races in Austria. Nothing happened. No questions were asked in the next race. Here we are after Sochi and there is a question. I see it as a confirmation of many things ».

Alonso thus suggested that the application of the rules varied from one driver to another. Without specifically naming the incident, he also referred to the lack of sanction for Lando Norris in Sochi while the pilot McLaren had crossed the white line at the entrance to the pit lane at the very end of the race.

Remember that for the same offense in Austria, Yuki tsunoda (Alpha Tauri) had received a time penalty.

« There are different rules depending on the drivers, scolded the visibly angry Iberian (unless that's just his way of being). Post-race discussions do not have the same content depending on the riders involved.

Let's see what happens the next time someone crosses the white line at the pit entrance. Let's look at his nationality and the sanction he receives ».

Is the double Spanish world champion implying that the race stewards are showing a certain leniency towards the British drivers? At Alonso, silences often say as much as shocking declarations.
