Alonso: “We lose up to 40km/h in a straight line”

If certain teams such as the Team Ferrari show promising performances for the 2017 season, others like McLaren-Honda seem to be in difficulty given the results obtained during winter testing.

The Woking team has accumulated reliability concerns in recent days with the MCL32 in Barcelona (Spain), with some even requiring the complete replacement of the Power Unit. The McLaren is one of the furthest behind, whether in terms of reliability or performance.

“I am positive about the new regulations, told Fernando Alonso at a press conference in the paddock of the Circuit de Catalunya. It's good to be able to attack at will, but we lack top speed against the others. The car seems good based on the data, we don't lose time in most corners, but we lose up to 40km/h in a straight line. »

Fernando Alonso would also like to see a quick reaction from his team to be able to string together laps without fearing a mechanical breakdown, as was the case in recent days during testing.

“I don’t know when these issues will be resolved. It will depend a lot on the big decisions taken at the top, confided the double world champion. The main objective is to arrive in the best conditions in Australia (March 26), a situation that we did not manage to achieve during the first six days of testing. We have two days left, one per driver, to try the fundamental things on the car, unlock the power of the engine and arrive in Australia with a decent level of reliability. »

“The second goal will be to become competitive to eventually fight in the top five, get podiums and victories, everything we dreamed of for this year. "We will have to make big decisions to change the situation and I expect an immediate reaction from the team.", added Fernando Alonso who only completed 46 laps during the 6th day of testing.
