Alonso: Few hopes for the Championship

La Team finally achieved its first success this season with the victory of Fernando Alonso at Silverstone. The Asturian took advantage of the poor pit stops of both drivers Red Bull to take control of the race until the checkered flag. But the double World Champion is still 92 points behind the Championship leader.

“We will approach each race as a final”, commented Fernando Alonso after the race. “My hopes for the Championship are very limited because Sebastian always finishes first or second. The only thing we can do is try to win the remaining races. We will have to be very aggressive. Every race, every start and every strategy must be optimal. »

The winner of the British GP admits to being surprised to find himself in the lead. “I saw that Sebastian had a problem when he stopped and I took the lead of the race at that moment. I came out of the pits in the lead and widened the gap. The race was changeable because we started the race with wet parts. The track was drying out, but we were still on intermediate tires. We then switched to slicks when we struggled with the intermediate compounds. »
