If Alonso finishes in the points a second time, it's a new zero point for Ocon, in difficulty throughout the race.

Fernando Alonso continues its good series at Paul Ricard. After an opportunistic end to the race in Baku, the Spanish driver delivered a solid performance to finish in 8th position at the end of the French Grand Prix. A result that satisfies the double world champion.

“We started 9th and finished 8th. Everything was executed perfectly during the race so I'm really happy with the result today, explains Alonso. We didn't anticipate that the tires would deteriorate this much. The mediums really didn't last long at the start of the race. We had two similar performances on two different tracks. After Monaco, it's reassuring to see us in the top 10 on several occasions. »

On the side ofEsteban Ocon, the race was much more difficult. The Frenchman finished far from the top 10 with a small 15th position.

“It’s not the race we were hoping for, relates Ocon. Our weekend was disappointing. Today I felt like something was missing, we're going to have to debrief that. The pace was not present on the different types of tires and what's more, they deteriorated quickly. We will learn from this weekend to come back stronger, starting from the next race. »

In the standings, Alonso widens the gap on his teammate Ocon. He is 5 points ahead of the Frenchman after the French round. Among manufacturers, Alpine now has 29 points, which allows them to remain in 7th place behind Aston Martin (40 points).
