The start of a bad series for Fernando Alonso. Wanting to move forward after his retirement at the Italian Grand Prix 3 weeks ago, the Bull of Asturias was stopped in his tracks. So in 6e place behind Lando Norris, the double world champion had to resolve to park his car on the side of the track shortly before halfway through the race. After a water shortage at Monza, it was the engine that suddenly failed this time in Singapore forcing him to give up for the 2e times in rank.

« Clearly, we still have no luck, explained the one who celebrated his 350e Career Grand Prix this Sunday, a record in F1. Another excellent weekend from a performance point of view not rewarded with points (…) It hurts to think that, in one of my best years in terms of performance, we lost more than 60 points because of reliability issues. But the positive and most important side was to return to the best level in 2022 so I am convinced that good things are coming."

The setbacks pile up for Alonso

Indeed, Fernando Alonso has been suffering from mechanical problems since the start of the season. In addition to Singapore and Monza more recently, the Iberian had already encountered problems in Austria where he was unable to participate in the Sprint Race after a faulty battery or in Saudi Arabia earlier where his water pump had failed while he was pointing at 7e rank during the Grand Prix.

Despite this poor performance, the F1 Grand Prix record holder remains optimistic for the rest of the season, starting with the Japanese Grand Prix in just one week. “ The good thing is that next weekend we will try again, and we hope to help the team with good points in one of my favorite circuits (Suzuka). »

Hopefully the reliability (which was there at Aston Martin) will be back next weekend at Suzuka!!
