This is a rare occurrence in the long career of Fernando Alonso, but the Spanish driver is not classified in the 2025 world championship! Quite officially, given that he has not been classified in Grand Prix this season, the driver Aston Martin does not appear in the points table, which therefore only has nineteen drivers. The return of the Formula 1 in Japan, where he finished sixth in 2024, represents an opportunity to score some first points. With ten points on the clock, his teammate Lance stroll is currently eighth in the championship. He is ahead of the two drivers Ferrari, Lewis Hamilton et Charles Leclerc...

“For me, things didn't go very well! I'm not even ranked in the championship since I didn't see the checkered flag! I hope we have better luck in the next races. In terms of competitiveness, everything is very close, and by improving by one or two tenths you can go from last place to a position in Q3. It shows that we have to be perfect every weekend, and that's the goal. It's a very good challenge to have.”

Alonso would have chosen Aston Martin if he were still a young driver

While Adrian Newey began work at Aston Martin in March, Fernando Alonso confirmed he has not yet met with the Briton. Even more than on the design side of the single-seaters, Newey focuses on some details of the technical department's organization, and brings his extensive experience to bear to help the Silverstone team climb the ladder.

“We haven’t really been able to talk because I haven’t been at the factory this week, but I know he’s very motivated. Every day, he’s working on details and anything he can spot that needs improvement in the team and systems. He’s a great addition to the team, and I’m looking forward to working with him. It’s still early days for him.”

Having made career choices that haven't always been the most inspired, the two-time world champion reiterated that, for him, Aston Martin was the best choice at this stage of his career. He even wished he were twenty years younger to fully enjoy it! “When you make decisions, it’s difficult to predict what’s going to happen. It’s a feeling, a trust you build with a group of people. Aston Martin, with all the investment and new recruits, is a great place for the future. The problem is that I’m not 20 anymore, so I’m going to keep driving and enjoy it for as long as I can. If I were a young driver, Aston Martin would definitely be my choice.”

I know a certain Jackal who is not going to like this season, good luck to Alonso in any case, still as good at 44 years old.

As he gets older, this good Fernand ends up being overtaken by the only permanent employee on the grid who is there somewhat unwittingly and willingly and becomes very corporate and politically correct by saying "If I were a young driver, Aston Martin would clearly be my choice." When he hangs up his helmet, wouldn't he then become an Aston Martin ambassador?
