Alonso: 'a new McLaren in Barcelona'

After finishing the Russian Grand Prix in Sochi with his two cars in the top ten, McLaren is preparing a major chassis upgrade for the Spanish GP on May 15 in Barcelona.

Fernando Alonso confirmed the preparations in an interview with Cedena Cope.

“We will have very important things in terms of aero and chassis in the next races. Nothing major is planned on the engine, but the goal of having the best chassis in the peloton is close to being achieved. We will more or less have a new car in Barcelona”, explained the double world champion.

If McLaren's weakness currently lies in the performance deficit of Honda's Power Unit, the Woking team can hope to improve its level of play on the grid.

“Before we have something for the engine, we already have to try to be fast in the corners. Circuits like Barcelona and Monaco that are coming up give pride of place to chassis over engines. We will have great opportunities. With upgrades and a little more power, and in a race like Russia where we took sixth place with ease, why not consider second or third place?, added the double world champion.
