Alonso wants at least a podium in Bahrain

Fernando Alonso had good qualifying in Bahrain since the Asturian took third place on the starting grid three tenths behind polesitter Nico Rosberg. The Asturian could perhaps have beaten Sebastian Vettel who took the first line, but the pilot of the Team preferred to cut his effort in his second flying lap in Q3 to keep his medium tires for the race.

“I saw at the last corner that I was half a tenth or a tenth behind and I preferred to return to the pits to save a lap with the tires”, explained the double world champion in the paddock of the Sakhir circuit. “You never know if we'll need it for the race. We usually struggle during qualifying but we are happy with our performance today. They allow us to put ourselves in a very good position for the race and to fight for a podium. »

After winning last weekend in Shanghai from the same position on the grid, Fernando Alonso can hope for a very good result. The Spaniard is all the more confident as his Ferrari often performs better in races. “It is true that we are often more efficient and more competitive on Sunday than on Saturday”, said the Ferrari driver. “Our long runs on Friday were more or less correct and we didn't have any major problems with the tires. We will have a great opportunity to show our consistency in racing and fight for a podium. A win would be even better! »
