Alonso wants to 'stay loyal to McLaren'

Fernando Alonso remained evasive about his future in 2018. While McLaren is expected to announce the end of its partnership with Honda and its agreement with Renault this Friday, the contract extension of the double world champion must still be discussed.

The Asturian still talks about his interest in other disciplines after participating in the Indy 500 last May and still dreams of winning the Triple Crown with victory at the Monaco GP, 24 Hours of Le Mans and the Indianapolis 500.

“There are opportunities everywhere and they are all interesting, confirmed Fernando Alonso at a press conference held in the Singapore GP paddock. You just have to be patient and wait a few weeks. My choice will be based on my desire to win. I will not compete in a championship to aim for a top ten or a top 15. F1 is my only priority, so I will wait to make a decision before making my choice for other disciplines. »

Fernando Alonso hinted his first choice would remain McLaren for 2018, the change of engine manufacturer being an argument that could be enough for the Spaniard.

“I want to give time for my team. We have faced some difficulties together and I want us to take the time to make our decisions. We will see next year's car and then the choices will be made. I want to remain loyal to McLaren and I won't make a choice until they make theirs.", insisted Fernando Alonso.

Fernando Alonso has had eight retirements this season, seven of which were due to mechanical problems. The McLaren driver only occupies 15th place in the Championship with ten points on the clock.
