Alonso aims for another podium in Monaco

After achieving another podium in Barcelona, Fernando Alonso leading the Championship tied on points with Sebastian Vettel. If the F2012 seems to be behind the top teams, the Asturian salutes the work of the Team which is working hard to catch up with the competition. The double world champion is aiming for a new podium on the Rock. “We are getting closer step by step and I am satisfied with these qualifications. I had a good feeling all weekend. Maybe I could have gained a tenth or two in Q3 but I don't think I could have gained any places given that the driver in front of me (Romain Grosjean) is more than three tenths away. You usually have to be in the top three here to hope for a victory and so I think our goal has to be the podium, but we also know that surprises are in store today. We saw it (yesterday) with Michael's pole (Schumacher), I am happy for him despite his penalty. »

Fernando Alonso has the opportunity to take sole control of the Championship since Sebastian Vettel will only start from ninth place on the grid. The Spaniard is thinking with his team about the best strategy to adopt. “The softs worked well but I will have to start on super softs even if we are a little in the unknown regarding their lifespan, we will see in the race how they behave. This is a good grid concerning the state of the Championship and my direct competitors because only Hamilton will start in front of me and Vettel is only ninth. Michael who will be with you at the start? It hasn't happened in a while but it will be nice to be so close to him, but I will be thinking more about passing the four people in front of me rather than the sixth rider. »
