This United States Grand Prix never stops going beyond the simple framework of the circuit. While Fernando Alonso had achieved a heroic 7th place on the track, the driver Alpine received a hefty 30-second penalty that knocked him out of the Top 10.

The reason ? The loss of a rear-view mirror, following the violent collision of which the Spaniard suffered with theAston Martin de Lance stroll.

Haas believes that Alonso should have been recalled to the pits using the black flag with an orange circle. The US GP stewards deemed the American team's complaint admissible, and sanctioned the double world champion.

His French team was quick to react.

« Alpine is disappointed to receive a post-race time penalty for the No. 14 car, which unfortunately pushes Fernando out of the points, said the tricolor structure in a press release.

The team acted in good faith and believes the car remained structurally safe following Fernando's incident with Lance Stroll on lap 22. The right mirror then came detached from the chassis due to damage sustained in the accident.

The FIA has the right to use the black and orange flag during the race if the stewards believe the car is not completely safe. In this scenario, they studied the car and chose not to use the flag. In addition, the FIA technical delegate judged the car legal after the race.

The team also believes that the complaint should not have been accepted since it was filed 24 minutes after the legal deadline. The sanction cannot therefore be considered valid.

Therefore, the team challenged the admissibility of the original claim brought by Haas ».
