The funny exchange between Fernando Alonso et Esteban Ocon on Twitter this Wednesday did not go unnoticed. It must be said that the few tweets in Vigenère cipher (encryption system, developed by Blaise de Vigenère in the XNUMXth century) between the two men and the attempts of Internet users to decipher it aroused the greatest curiosity of the community F1.

After some speculation, the first translations were released and mentioned a big announcement in the next 24 hours. Then began the madness of the Internet and some were thinking of a contract extension, like the daily Marca, or even of an arrival in Hypercar ofAlpine with the Alonso-Ocon duo.

As expected 24 hours later, Alpine confirmed the news. The French team is “happy to announce that double Formula 1 world champion Fernando Alonso will continue with these colors during the 2022 season alongside Esteban Ocon”. Nothing really new in the end since the Bull of Asturias had signed a multi-year contract with the A arrow in July 2020, marking his return to F1.

« I am very happy to confirm the extension of my contract with Alpine for season 2022, rejoiced Fernando Alonso. I felt like home as soon as I returned to the team and was welcomed with open arms. It is a pleasure to work again with some of the brightest minds in our sport whether at enstone or Viry-Châtillon. It's been a tough season for everyone, but we've shown progress as a team and the result in Hungary is a perfect example. ».

Returning to Formula 1 after two years of absence, Fernando Alonso is currently 11th in the drivers' standings and remains in an encouraging 4th place in Hungary, his best result of the season.
