A car racing car is immediately identifiable by its front and rear wings, but this was not always the case. In fact, we had to wait until 1968 to see a Formula 1 to sport a wing for the first time at the initiative of the brilliant Colin Chapman, founder of the Lotus brand, well inspired by a pilot engineer from the 1960s, Jim Hall. Based on the premise that a plane flies thanks to a wing creating lift, Jim Hall decided in 1967 to graft one with an inverted profile to the rear of his Chaparral 2F prototype in order to pin it to the ground (PHOTO 1).
