F1 technical analysis – Less drag for more speed

After the aerodynamic developments that appeared at the Spanish Grand Prix on the F1, including the controversial Aston Martin AMR22 “B” (see Ah2365), the Azerbaijan and Canadian Grands Prix saw the entry onto the scene of “Low Drag” kits.

This term is often wrongly translated as “low support”. This is incorrect, because no team seeks to voluntarily reduce the aerodynamic downforce of its F1 cars. Engineers constantly aim to obtain the best compromise between maximum load and minimum air resistance. It is therefore more of a “low drag” configuration which actually leads to a reduction in downforce. Reduced drag provides better ground speed
