Motorsport icon and living legend in the United States, Mario Andretti, 82 years old, for whom age has no influence, was in Austin for the inauguration of “The Andretti” corner, the last one to command the line right of the stands. Obviously questioned on this occasion about the “Andretti Global” project that his son is leading, he confirmed that “ Michael moves forward as if he has been given permission to put a team on the grid. We try hard every day. A lot of people don't hear much about it, but we are working every day to try to get an official agreement and are moving forward as if it already is. Michael and his partners decided to take this risk. This shows how much we want this to happen. »
The 1978 world champion, whose last career start dates back to the 1982 Caesar's Palace GP, had the pleasure of riding in a car modern – the McLaren MP4/28 from 2013 – at Laguna Seca, then at COTA during a demonstration which aroused the enthusiasm of the fans. “ I don't know what's happening to me because I don't think I deserve all this, but I'm enjoying it », concluded Mario, hoping to soon be able to enjoy the ultimate honor of being able to put an Andretti single-seater on the starting grids F1.
