Appeal against Racing Point: Renault persists and signs, McLaren withdraws

Renault, who triggered the political-technical-sporting saga that has punctuated race weekends since the Styrian Grand Prix, has decided to follow through with his approach. Like Ferrari a little earlier this Tuesday evening, the French manufacturer has confirmed its intention to appeal against the Racing Point brake ducts, the design of which was deemed legal but not the concept itself.

« At the same time, we will continue to work hand in hand with the FIA and other stakeholders to develop and implement a regulatory framework that requires all teams entered in 2021 to create their own aerodynamic concept. », Renault said in a press release.

At the same time, McLaren, which will use a propellant Mercedes from 2021, has chosen not to imitate its current engine manufacturer. While its CEO Zak Brown was particularly virulent against Racing Point, McLaren will not appeal the stewards' verdict.

« The FIA has demonstrated that any infringements will now be investigated and may be subject to sanctions., the Woking team justified itself in an official press release. McLaren is also pleased to see that the FIA will provide further clarifications to the technical and sporting regulations in order to protect the Formula 1 and the status of Manufacturers, thus preventing a competitor from copying another's car ».

Nikolas Tombazis, technical manager of the FIA single-seater series, had in fact revealed last weekend that measures would be put in place from 2021 to avoid finding themselves « with 10 Mercedes on the grid »

We can understand the delicate position in which McLaren finds itself, annoyed by Racing Point's attitude but anxious not to start its new Mercedes engine collaboration on the wrong foot. The Woking team will, however, keep a close eye on the outcome of the fight that Renault has been waging for a month.

Contacted by AUTOweekly, Williams4th and last team to appeal against Racing Point, informed us that it would rule by Wednesday morning 10:30 a.m., the deadline to announce its decision.
