The case Pierre Gasly has been talked about a lot over the past two weeks and the last Grand Prix contested in Mexico. Sanctioned with one point on his license after pushing Lance stroll off the track, the Norman saw his total rise to 10, thus being 2 small units of a suspension. This would be a first since the introduction of the “driving license” in 2014.

However, the recent decisions of the race management have not necessarily convinced the entire grid, or even anyone. It is for this same reason that many pilots believe that sanctions leading to a penalty of one or more points on the license should be reviewed.

Gasly supported by his peers

« I think there have been some good discussions already, and it's best to keep it between us, but from what I understand there will be some changes in the future, advance Valtteri Bottas who did not hesitate to give his opinion on how actions leading to penalties should be judged while providing his support to Pierre Gasly.

Points should only be awarded when it is truly dangerous and could harm oneself or someone else on the track. I believe that progress will be made in this area. Rock (Gasly) doesn't deserve to be in this kind of situation, basically. But that's the rule these days. The main thing is how we will act in the future from now on… ”

But Valtteri Bottas' voice was not the only one heard in the paddock regarding the subject. Sergio Pérez also went with his statement and in line with that of the Finn. “ When it is not related to bad driving or errors, there should be no penalty, estimates the pilot Red Bull. It would be a real shame if he ended up with a suspension race for this reason. » And Alex Albon to continue. “ I am rather well placed to talk about it too and I completely agree with Pierre (Gasly), he emphasizes while he has 6 penalty points on his license. To give you a little context, I have three penalty points which are linked to track limits, which is not dangerous at all. I am not harming another driver or myself in this situation. I have two further points for a collision with Stroll in Jeddah, which I think at the end of the race we as drivers felt was not my fault. So there are a lot of points on my license that I don't think I deserve. » Voices begin to rise in the paddock and annoyance is felt more and more. The ball is in the court of the FIA which will have to find the best compromise to prevent other drivers from finding themselves in the same situation as Pierre Gasly in the future for, let's say stupid, sanctions.
