After good results in England and Austria, Haas aims for 6th place in the championship

After two finishes in the points, Haas recovered 7th place in the constructors' standings. If Günther Steiner does not want to get fired up, the Italian leader believes his team can overtake Alfa Romeo at the end of the season.

Morale is high at Haas. After Mick Schumacher opened his points counter Formula 1 at Silverstone, the American team confirmed in Austria. On the Red Bull Ring, the German pilot and Kevin Magnussen both finished in the points with 6th and 8th places respectively. With 14 new units on the clock, Haas was able to move up a place in the manufacturers' standings. Despite this new 7th position, Günther Steiner does not want to get excited.

« I don't want to get ahead of myself, but if we can keep seventh place, or finish sixth, that would be good. I think aiming above sixth place will be very difficult because the other teams are very good and have a bit of a lead » announces the main team. For the moment, 6th place is occupied by Alfa Romeo which is 17 points ahead. But before planning ahead, Haas must also look in its mirrors with Alpha Tauri which should bring improvements to Castellet.

As Formula 1 arrives in France this Friday, Haas arrives full of confidence and intends to extend the momentum. “ If we can continue like this, obviously we won't have perfect race weekends like the last two with both cars scoring points, but we just have to keep working hard and maybe we can reach sixth place », Estimates the Italian leader who nevertheless wants to be wary of excess enthusiasm.

Haas in difficulty on fast circuits?

Without any notable developments since the start of the championship, Haas is content for the moment to optimize the settings of its cars. A strategy that has paid off so far but which could stall after the summer break with the Spa-Francorchamps and Monza sequence. “ Our car is pretty good everywhere, I think our weak point is the high-speed tracks like Jeddah and Baku. I am very confident that if we work well we can have points again ", says Günther Steiner.

The American team also owes this renewal to the reliability of its single-seaters. After a succession of engine problems like in Baku, breakdowns and other breakages spare Kevin Magnussen and Mick Schumacher for the moment. “The reliability of the last two races was good and we hope that it will remain so for the next events before the summer,” fingers crossed the main team. While waiting to know if the engine Ferrari will play tricks on Haas again like she did on Carlos Sainz in Austria, the American team continues to progress at its own pace. So after a dark year in 2021, Günther Steiner finds himself dreaming a little after this double finish in the points. “ Every little step can be improved so that we can progress and one day, hopefully soon, we will have a podium. »
