The arrival of Adrian Newey as Managing and Technical Partner from March 2025, and the departure of Technical Director Dan Fallows, who arrived in 2022 from Red Bull, were therefore only the first stage of the rocket. Author of a magnificent start to the season in 2023 marked by six podiums in the first eight races, Aston Martin has since begun a slow decline in the sporting hierarchy, to the point of no longer being able to regularly compete for podiums.

Lawrence Stroll has therefore decided to make some adjustments in order to get its team back on track. The main change in this announced restructuring is a change of team principal. Arriving in 2022 as team principal, Mike Krack is to hand over the reins with immediate effect. The Luxembourger is not leaving the company, however, and will retain an important role on the circuits, that of Chief Trackside Officer. Time will tell whether this is a temporary role pending a possible departure or whether he has truly accepted being downgraded.

Enrico Cardile will lead the factory

The new boss is in fact Andy Cowell. The Briton was already the boss, anyway, since he was presented last July as Martin Whitmarsh's successor as CEO of the group. The new thing this Friday is that the former boss of the engine department of Mercedes between 2013 and 2020 will also take on the role of Team Principal. His leadership and managerial qualities have undoubtedly convinced the Canadian to change gear and kick things up a notch.

It should be noted that the team based at AMR's Silverstone technology campus will be led by the team's new technical director, formerly responsible for aerodynamics at Ferrari, Enrico Cardile. The Italian will oversee the architecture, design and construction of the new racing cars. Tom McCullough will remain within the group in a management position, where he will play a key role in expanding the team's range of racing categories.

“I have spent the last three months understanding and evaluating our performance, and I have been incredibly impressed by the dedication, commitment and hard work of this team., explained Andy Cowell. With the completion of the AMR Technology Campus and our transition to a full team in 2026, alongside our strategic partners Honda and Aramco, we are well on our way to becoming a championship-winning team. These organizational changes are a natural evolution of the multi-year plans we have in place and I am incredibly excited for the future.”.

As in football, when the team is not working, it is the coach who is asked to look elsewhere. In this case, he accepted to be downgraded because Stroll Sr has a checkbook full enough to write him a big check and throw him out. In the meantime, to unlock performance, the bucket steering wheel interface of the second green single-seater has unfortunately still not been changed!!

Good riddance, too bad it doesn't apply to the driver as well.
