Sebastian Vettel stood on the second step of the podium at the Hungarian Grand Prix. However, the German driver was unable to enjoy the 18 points that came with it. The commissioners in fact disqualified the four-time world champion for an infringement of article 6.6.2 of the Technical Regulations of the F1. The car flanked by the number 5 had only 0.3 liters in his tank at the end of the race, while the article specifies that a driver “must have at least 1 liter of gasoline in the tank at all times during the weekend.”
But the decision taken in Budapest is not yet final since Aston Martin has just appealed this decision.
“There was no advantage on track for Vettel's car despite running out of fuel at the finish, can we read in a press release. Additionally, team data shows that there was more than the legal liter of fuel in the Aston Martin (1.74 liters according to the data). The team immediately appealed the commissioners' decision. »
It now remains to be seen whether the major F1 authorities will reverse their decision to disqualify Vettel or not.
UPDATE: Following Sebastian Vettel's disqualification from the Hungarian Grand Prix, Aston Martin Cognizant Formula One™ Team requests right of review and initiates appeal procedure.
