Aston Martin appoints new engineering director

Aston Martin strengthens its technical department with the arrival of Luca Furbatto as director of engineering. 

The 50-year-old Italian will report directly to technical boss Andrew Green, who sees his role expanded to include “Chief Technical Officer” responsibilities, similar to that of Adrian Newey at Red Bull or James Allison on the side of Mercedes. 

Aston Martin claims that the arrival of Furbatto, who until then worked as chief designer at Alfa Romeo, is the first in a long list of weight reinforcements. Furbatto will be involved in both track and factory operations. He will take up his duties ahead of the 2022 season and the aerodynamic revolution that accompanies it.

The same Green welcomed the arrival in the ranks of Aston Martin of a technical figure with two decades of experience in the discipline. “ He is just the first in a list of major recruitments that match our ambitions to play at the forefront », Commented the British engineer. 

Furbatto is naturally delighted to join Aston Martin where he believes Lawrence's project Stroll « brings together all the ingredients for success: a very involved management team, talented staff, and new investments ».

Remember that Aston Martin, which will have a new factory in 2022, has given itself 5 years to play for the title in F1.
