No : Aston Martin won't leave the Formula 1 the months and years to come. This is what Lawrence assured in any case Stroll, shareholder and chairman of the British firm from Gaydon, as the brand prepares to reorganize its shareholding, both for the car manufacturer and for the F1 team. Indeed, on Monday, Aston Martin announced that it would sell minor shares in its team in order to raise 74 million pounds sterling, or 88,5 million euros.

However, according to the Canadian businessman, the sale of these shares does not mean the British manufacturer is withdrawing from the company. "These measures demonstrate that Aston Martin's place on the Formula 1 grid is safer than ever, said the billionaire in a statementAston Martin Lagonda recently recommitted to its long-term sponsorship and licensing agreement with Aston Martin F1, confirming that the legendary Aston Martin brand and its British Racing Green colours will be present in Formula 1 for decades to come.

Aston Martin, soon to be just a sponsor?

Lawrence Stroll bought the Force India team in mid-2018 with the Yew Tree consortium, before renaming the team Racing Point. The Canadian was the key player in Aston Martin's return to Formula 1 in 2021, after acquiring the British manufacturer. Since taking over the brand in 2020, Lawrence Stroll and his consortium have already raised funds six times and cut 5% of the workforce. The Canadian has invested around £600 million – or around €717 million – in the Aston Martin brand, which is still struggling financially due to supply chain issues, delivery delays, and declining demand in China, not to mention the tariffs imposed by Donald Trump in the United States.

Aston Martin, whose main sponsor (and shareholder) is Saudi giant Aramco, has explained that Lawrence Stroll has asked investment bank Raine Group to help him find a buyer for his shares in the British team. "Raine Group will work closely with Jeff Slack, Aston Martin F1's Chief Commercial Officer, to find a strategic investor capable of delivering long-term value to the team and brand."

Last September, according to Sky News, Accel and HPS Investment Partners, two leading global investors, had purchased around 20% of the Formula 1 team's shares, bringing the value of the Aston Martin team to between €1,8 billion and €2,4 billion. Other shareholders in the team include Adrian Newey: the British engineer, who joined Aston Martin on March 1st as a senior technical partner, also received shares in the team to supplement his compensation.

"...find a strategic investor capable of bringing long-term added value to the team and the brand." A form of disengagement from Aston Martin by Stroll and his colleagues? Will Saudi Arabia's sovereign wealth fund soon arrive?
