Aston Martin wants to play for the title within 3 to 5 years

When James Bond himself participates in your launch, it's hard not to aim for the leading roles.

Aston Martin has therefore given itself the mission of entering the fight for the world title within 5 years maximum.

In the margins of launch of the new AMR21, Otmar Szafnauer, CEO of the Silverstone team, detailed the roadmap set by Lawrence Stroll, who has been overseeing the destiny of the English manufacturer for a year, and those of the former Force India team since the summer of 2018.

« Competing for a championship and winning it is much easier said than done, commented the American.

We need 2 things: firstly, establish an action plan to attack now and then stick to it. We are in full planning mode. Execution will take time. People in F1 are used to saying that we have to give ourselves between 3 and 5 years and we are in the same situation.

Last year, we worked on building a new factory with new infrastructure. The idea was to bring all the facilities under one roof. The implementation of this project has just started at Silverstone.

Towards the end of 2022, we are expected to move into a new factory, with the aim that it will also include state-of-the-art tools to help us design a car capable of competing for the world title. But that’s a few years away.

If I have to project myself into the future, I would say that we are talking about a 3-5 year horizon ».

Sebastian Vettel, who joined Aston Martin from Ferrari this winter, considers such a deadline realistic. But the four-time German world champion wonders if the aerodynamic revolution expected in 2022 will not make it possible to reduce this preparation time to reach the summits.
