Sergio Pérez may have tried everything on the track, with 30 horses less, he could not aim higher than the 4th place he obtained at the Miami Grand Prix. In Florida, the Mexican nevertheless had the car and the potential to come and get Carlos Sainz et Charles Leclerc to achieve a second double with the new victory of Max Verstappen.

Qualified in 4th position, Checo fought for a long time with the Spaniard of Team Ferrari for the last step of the podium. From the 19th lap, a problem appeared on his RB18 and the driver Red Bull starts to lose power. “ I was a second behind Carlos, then the engine failed and I lost about 30 seconds in two laps, then the problem affected me throughout the race », Explains Sergio Pérez at a press conference.

At the end of the Grand Prix, Red Bull figured out what the problems were with the Mexican's car. “ Checo was unlucky today, he had a sensor problem very early in the day and lost about 30 horsepower. He gave his best when we pitted him and gave him the tire advantage, and without that problem he could have finished second », analyzes Christian Horner.

30 fewer horses in the race for Sergio Pérez

On the track, Sergio Pérez did not let himself be defeated and tried at all costs to get the podium. “ I had a little opportunity on Carlos and I took it even though I knew that (the track) was going to be very dirty. I think even if I had him, he was going to pass me, because I was too slow on the straights. »

Red Bull and Sergio Pérez can still reassure themselves with this 4th place, after the reliability problems which have already cost the Austrian team points this season. “ It's very frustrating that these things keep happening, but on the other hand, for a bad day we still managed to finish 4th, which is good. We are working very hard on reliability and we will continue to push as a team. » With Formula 1 making its return to Europe in Barcelona from May 20, we will have to count on Sergio Pérez, determined to return to the fight for first place.
