If there is one team that will be scrutinized very closely in 2023, it is good Aston Martin. The British team has disappointed in the previous two campaigns despite promises of progress which has, to date, not materialized. However, the good momentum initiated in the second part of the 2022 season should give some hope to the English. Aston Martin will also be strengthened by the new infrastructures currently being built at Silverstone but also (and above all) by the arrival of Fernando Alonso.

The double world champion will aim to move Aston Martin up the hierarchy in the short and long term. According to the team's performance director, Tom McCullough, the “competitive nature” from the Spaniard should give a boost to the English manufacturer's project. “I’m still getting to know Fernando. He is a very motivated and competitive character. I start to see him a little when I talk to him, said the British engineer. He only focuses on doing well. He sees a good future in our team and the 'journey' we have started (…) But Fernando is not going to be content with fighting in midfield. He wants to be part of the step we want to take, which is to start challenging the top three teams. »

Aston Martin wants “fight against the top three teams” in 2023.

Renowned for his strong character and his very particular tact towards his teams throughout his career, Fernando Alonso nevertheless has the unconditional support of the Silverstone staff. The Oviedo native was able to get a taste of his next adventure with Aston Martin during post-season testing in Abu Dhabi, later declaring that he was “more than 100% happy”. However, without wanting to calm the enthusiasm of his new driver, Tom McCullough preferred to point out that the process of growing the team is still long.

In 2023, Aston Martin wants to progress in the hierarchy, without aiming for victories immediately. The short-term goal? Playing at the gates of the Top 3 among manufacturers. “I think Fernando is going to contribute significantly to that, says Aston Martin's performance director. He's realistic, you know. He is in the project with us. If we can fight against the top three teams next year, I'm sure we'll be happy with that. From there, [we'll] just continue the journey we started to try to catch up with the teams at the front who are doing the best job at the moment. »

We will see quite quickly from the start of the season if Fernand made the right choice! It would be funny to see him behind the 2 Alpine ...
