It was supposed to be his weekend but everything didn't go as planned. At the French Grand Prix, Pierre Gasly finally had the developments requested for several weeks on its AT03. The Norman then expected to be able to get back into the points and even hoped to reach Q3. But if he seemed comfortable on Friday, the next day it was the opposite. Qualified in 16th position, the Habs finally completed the 53 laps in 12th position. A result far from his expectations and those ofAlpha Tauri.

So to obtain the expected results, it will take a few more break-in sessions. “ We need a little more time to evaluate the new package, but there is obviously a limit to how much we can do in a few days », recalls Pierre Gasly. But on the Hungaroring, the AT03 could perform better. At least, the succession of slow turns should allow the Normand and Yuki tsunoda to secure a top 10. “ You need a lot of downforce on this circuit, like in Monaco, and that's what the updates are supposed to provide. We're going to push as hard as we can to be where we think we should be performance-wise », Explains the French AlphaTauri driver.

Overtaking made easier in Hungary this year?

As in the Principality, overruns are rare in Hungary. So qualifying well is an almost sine qua none condition for obtaining a good result. A parameter of which the two AlphaTauri drivers are well aware. But this year, with the promise of news Formula 1, racing maneuvers could multiply. “ I'm looking forward to seeing if this year the situation improves with these new cars, because so far we've found that it's generally easier to overtake than before », notes Yuki Tsunoda. The Japanese nevertheless remains lucid and knows very well that the race can quickly become frustrating once stuck in a train. car.

In Hungary, if AlphaTauri does not want to be completely detached from the championship, the points seem imperative. After 4 zeros scored in a row, the team based in Faenza is unable to achieve its objective at the start of the season: to be the best team behind the others. A place currently occupied by Alpine which has more than triple the units of AlphaTauri (93 against 27 points). So to try to stop the bleeding, Pierre Gasly and Yuki Tsunoda will have to find the top 10 before leaving for the summer break.
