Ayrton Senna has failed to qualify just once in his career. It was at the 1984 San Marino Grand Prix at Imola, at the wheel of the aging Toleman TG183B shod with Pirelli tires.

Given the Brazilian's pedigree in this exercise, it's almost an insult to his talent. And it took a real set of circumstances to deprive him of the 1984 San Marino Grand Prix, the fourth round of the year at Imola. Byrne and his design team were still working on the new TG4 when the 184 campaign began, so Senna and his Venezuelan teammate Johnny Cecotto
