The FIA World Council has indicated that the Bahrain GP will be kept on the calendar, despite the political tensions in the country. The race will be contested on October 30 in place of the Indian GP, postponed to a later date. This decision was met with several protests motivated by different reasons.
However, Bernie Ecclestone recalls that the FIA takes responsibility for maintaining this GP. “The truth is that this decision was voted by the FIA during the World Council”, comments the financier of the F1 at the Press Association Sport. “The Federation sent people to take stock of the situation, they came back and indicated that everything was fine. »
Bernie Ecclestone adds that safety was the main issue investigated by the FIA. “Certainly everyone should be safe when we go there”, adds the financier. “In the end, we will have to wait and see what happens in Bahrain. If there is peace and there are no problems, I suppose the teams will be in favor (of this decision). »
