Yuki tsunoda had nevertheless started his first weekend well at the wheel of a Red BullPromoted after just two Grands Prix in place of Liam Lawson, the Japanese looked capable of rising to the challenge where the New Zealander had failed in Australia and China, getting closer to his new teammate's times, Max Verstappen.

But the difficulties in taming the Austrian team's second RB21 finally caught up with the local hero, who could not do better than 15th place in Q2, while his omnipotent garage neighbor rediscovered the joys of pole position. The height of the story: Tsunoda was beaten in qualifying by… Liam Lawson, 14th on his return to Racing Bulls.

Tsunoda identified the cause of his failure in qualifying

"I didn't manage to put everything together today," Yuki Tsunoda told Canal+ after the session. “My warm-up lap was the biggest problem. I wasn't able to do a proper warm-up lap before I started. That hurt me a lot more than I expected. It's disappointing, but it's too late now. It's a real shame, because I think I had the potential to make Q3.”

“On Sunday, I will do my best, added the driver of the No. 22. This It won't be easy, that's for sure, but there's still a chance. Anything is possible with the rain that's expected."

Even though Tsunoda set some encouraging lap times in the EL, Verstappen clearly wasn't pushing hard. There was no miracle, the second RB is still stuck at the back of the pack and even behind the two Racing Bulls... Who's next on the list?

In this revealing qualifying session, Tsunoda did little better than TexMex, who also claimed he could do better! Not to mention the fact that he was beaten by Lawson... hoping that it won't be too close between the two at the start and then at the first corner!
