The new era has not yet begun and Mohammed Ben Sulayem and the FIA are already thinking about the next one. In any case, the president of the Federation wants to prepare it in the best possible way, anticipating all eventualities.

What will happen to this new generation? We already know that the one that will start in 2026 – and will continue until 2030 – is in line with the current one, with 6L V1,6s still on the program. However, these engines will be simplified with the disappearance of the famous MGU-H (thermal generator engine that recovers energy from the turbocharger). A strategy aimed at attracting new engine manufacturers, and paying off since Audi will arrive in 2026 while Cadillac aims to do its own from 2028.

"We should consider a whole range of options"

As for the next one, supposed to start in 2031, nothing has been defined yet. And the least we can say is that the authorities are not ruling out any possibility. At a time when sustainable fuels offer new avenues of exploitation, those called upon to make decisions could analyze several possibilities, including the one leading to an old generation, that of the roaring V10s that made fans happy.

« The launch of the F1 in London this week has sparked many positive discussions about the future of sport, writes Mohammed Ben Sulayem. As we look forward to the introduction of the 2026 chassis and power unit regulations, we must also lead the way when it comes to future motorsport technology trends. We should be considering a range of options, including the roar of a V10 running on sustainable fuel.

Whichever direction we choose, we must support teams and manufacturers by ensuring cost control of research and development expenditure.

The satisfaction of our members and fans will always be at the heart of everything we do, alongside important work to make the sport safer and more sustainable for decades to come, so that future generations can enjoy F1.. » In any case, the people are only asking for that, while hybrid V6s have never really achieved unanimity among fans.

The prospect of new engine regulations from the 2031 season is certainly one of the reasons for abandoning the PowerUnit. Alpine 2026 by Renault Group. As the rumor of a "high revs" V10 atmo running on e-fuel seems persistent and confirmed by Liberty Media and the FIA (who seem at first glance to be in phase for once!), I do not believe for a second in a Cadillac PowerUnit from the 2028 season. If the V10 were to return, I am not sure that it will please the board of Audi AG in Ingolstadt even if the brand with the rings, like Renault, has real expertise

We need to stop the madness, if there is a new engine in 2031, no Cadillac in 2028, not for just 3 seasons!
