Berger: “Red Bull has always been patient”

The future of Red Bull within the board F1 has been called into question since the changes in engine manufacturer between McLaren et Toro Rosso allow us to envisage a future without the support of Renault end of 2018. Dietrich Mateschitz, the big boss of the Austrian energy drink company, is said to be tired of the lack of results since the implementation of Power Units in the discipline.

Gerhard Berger, the new president of DTM who received financial support from Red Bull in his racing career, does not think that the management of the Red Bull could consider withdrawing from F1.

“He is obviously not satisfied with the current situation of his team, admitted Gerhard Berger on ORF, but Red Bull remains a powerful team where no one has left, notably Newey (the technical director). It's certainly frustrating in the long term not to have an engine capable of competing for the title. Red Bull have always been patient and they are going to need it now. things can't always go well. »

By powering Toro Rosso in 2018, Honda should also regain the contract with the first Red Bull team for the 2019 season. However, the partner Aston Martin could also play a more important role in the future.

“These times are difficult, but there is light at the end of the tunnel, added Gerhard Berger. Honda's arrival at Toro Rosso is a start. I believe in Honda which has a sporting culture, the necessary resources and a team which has the mentality of Red Bull. I can see Honda returning to its original level and producing engines at the highest level. »

Red Bull Racing occupies third place in the Constructors' Championship with just one victory this season to go towards the title. Daniel Ricciardo in Baku (Azerbaijan).
