Berger: “Surprised that there are still so many fans”

With 210 Grand Prix starts and his long relationships in the motorsport world, Gerhard Berger is well placed to analyze the situation of the F1. The current director of DTM was invited for a Carpooling in which he notably spoke about his feelings regarding the turn taken by the queen single-seater discipline.

“What I see at the moment are actions aimed at diverting attention such as the ban on grid girls, the ban on changing the color of your helmet more than once per season, etc., commented Gerhard Berger to AUTOweekly. Meanwhile, we fall asleep in front of our TV. Liberty Media is increasing its efforts to make the sport attractive, but if the spectacle on the track is not good, it is of no use. Honestly, I'm surprised that there are still so many fans..."

Gerhard Berger was also invited to comment on the current situation of McLaren where he played as a starting driver from 1990 to 1992, a few days before the announcement of Éric Boullier's withdrawal from the team.

“It's a little painful for me to see what's happening and to think that based on my experience, things aren't going to work out that way. Maybe I'm wrong, but at the moment, progress is slow in coming. It’s none of my business, but things are starting to get very complicated…”, added the 58-year-old Austrian.
