Results (1/12): McLaren at the top

McLaren is undoubtedly the most efficient team at the start of the season. During pre-season testing, the Woking team had placed its MP4-25 at the forefront but Ferrari et Red Bull were expected to have the fastest cars. If the RB6 and the F10 are indeed fast, McLaren showed a lot of efficiency on the track.

First of all, the Woking team took advantage of the track conditions of the first races to showcase its strategy. And first of all Jenson Button, who made the right tire choices to score two victories in four races today.

« McLaren makes a very good start to the season, analysis for AUTOhebdo.fr Patrick Tambay, former F1 driver and RMC Sport consultant? BFM TV. There is a healthy emulation between the two British World Champions. We are a little surprised because we expected the opposite situation. But Button did very well given the race, track and weather conditions. He showed a lot of vision and intelligence. »

For its part, Lewis Hamilton took less advantage of the qualities of his car to collect points. But the 2008 World Champion showed off on the track, accumulating 32 overtakes in four Grands Prix and promoting the spectacle of these races. “ Hamilton showed more aggression, says Patrick Tambay. He was spectacular, he showed his little touch of madness. A touch of “madness” which didn’t make his life any easier but, from a show standpoint, we’re not going to complain about it. »

In fact, after the four eastern races at the start of the season, McLaren is the team which has scored the most points. If Ferrari and Red Bull received more favorable predictions at the start of the year, the Woking team was able to respond in the race, making a minimum of mistakes and taking advantage of the speed and reliability of the MP4-25. Martin Whitmarsh's team also benefited from the efficiency of its "F-duct" in a straight line, inspiring many other teams.

« They have a great team, back on the scene with an F-duct system bringing controversy and controversy. But they had a very good start to the season, concludes Patrick Tambay. However, we cannot say that they are favorites for the title this year. That?s the beauty of this start to the season. There is still a lot of indecision. Nobody really took the break. Perhaps a little Button in the rankings but, in pure value, that remains to be demonstrated. Things are still very open. »
