The International Automobile Federation (FIA) has spoiled the fun of Ferrari which had just revealed its F1-75 for the 2022 season of Formula 1 this Thursday, February 17. Indeed, the President of the FIA, Mohammed Ben Sulayem announced following the presentation, the dismissal of Michael Masi from the post of Race Director in F1 following the 2021 Abu Dhabi GP affair.

After a few questions about the upcoming season, Mattia Binotto, the boss of the Team Ferrari, responded at a press conference to the measures taken by the FIA, such as the replacement of Michael Masi by a pair from the WEC and DTM, the addition of a remote Race Direction or the cessation of incessant exchanges by radio between the teams and the Race Direction.

“What happened in Abu Dhabi was over-analyzed and over-discussed for weeks and months,” said the native of Lausanne (Switzerland). I think that the delay (to analyze the situation. Editor's note) showed how complex the case was. Honestly, I think we can only do better. And if there is a lesson to be learned from this, it is that changes were necessary. They were caught. We will support them.

Mattia Binotto is thus satisfied with the FIA's analytical work and hopes that relations between the organization and the teams will become more hermetic again. “What is crucial, and what I am in favor of, is the complete independence of the FIA in decision-making. I think this is the only way to go; they are restructuring in this sense.

In order for the FIA to have complete freedom, we must have confidence in them and Ferrari has complete confidence in the FIA. »
