Binotto: cost control must be rational

The coronavirus crisis is pushing the F1 to question oneself about one's future. While the 2020 season will not begin until early July after the postponement of the Canadian GP, the stables are already anticipating the following year when the budget will be difficult to meet for the most modest structures.

Mattia Binotto, Team Principal of the Team Ferrari, was asked to react to the question on Sky Sports after Zak Brown, executive director of McLaren Technology Group, expressed its concerns about the sustainability of the grid.

“It’s definitely a concern. We are fully aware of the difficulties that some teams are experiencing and that we will need to limit costs to ensure a future for F1.", admitted the Italian.

“We are in discussion on this, but we must not forget that we are talking about different structures. Certain teams like Ferrari, which are manufacturers, design, develop and produce all the elements of the car. Other teams are client teams and do not have the same structures… The solution is perhaps not to have a single budget limit for all teams”, he added.

F1 is still at a standstill in the face of the coronavirus epidemic with a compulsory closure of factories which was extended to 35 days.
