Binotto: Ferrari and Red Bull packages are very close in competitiveness

From the British Grand Prix last weekend, the double of Mercedes, including the 80th victory of Lewis Hamilton, But also the bitter duel between Ferrari et Red Bull, materialized by the virile but correct pass of arms between Charles Leclerc et Max Verstappen and the incident between this same Verstappen and Sebastian Vettel, penalized for causing a collision.

An on-track opposition which demonstrates the constant progress of the Red Bull – Honda tandem, and which forces the Scuderia to recognize its current weaknesses. “Red Bull has improved and if you look at the last two weekends, they won in Austria and they were very good again today, analyzes Mattia Binotto, head of sports management at Maranello.

Our package and theirs are very close in terms of competitiveness. For us, it is an additional source of motivation to redouble our efforts, improve, and play at the forefront. It's disappointing not to have been able to do it in the race.

After qualifying, we hoped to achieve a better result but the pace was not good enough and there is still a lot of work to do. »

The Italian further admits that Ferrari encountered a lack of correlation between its wind tunnel tests and the track indicator, in very specific conditions.  “In Austria we took some measurements, tried to understand the problem, tried to understand what is wrong with the floor, comments Binotto.

We got large and meaningful responses from the test. So at least we understand why it didn't work. We must now move forward and make clear progress. We are still with the old floor that we had at Paul Ricard and in Austria. »
