At Ferrari, it's unity around Charles Leclerc. The Scuderia provided its support to its driver, who was at fault for going off the track during the French Grand Prix and which cost him victory. Via the voice of Mattia Binotto, the director of the Italian team, the entire team of Maranello wants to reassure the Monegasque. “ This is a real mistake, it happens. (…) Charles has all our confidence, he is an incredible driver, he has fantastic potential. (…) As a team, we support him as much as possible”, supported Binotto with F1 TV.

Charles Leclerc, very disappointed and angry with himself, admitted responsibility for his accident. If the five-time Grand Prix winner first pointed out a problem with his accelerator pedal (as for the Austrian Grand Prix on July 10), Mattia Binotto confirmed that this was not the case. “No, there was no problem with the accelerator itself, nothing to do with Austria”, said the Ferrari chief. “What happened was a real mistake by Charles. These are things that can happen, and I think they take nothing away from his quality as a driver. But it was a real mistake…”

“What you heard on the radio was when he was reversing trying to get out of the barriers”, explained Binotto after the race. “Without going into all the details, somehow he was on the throttle but he didn't feel enough torque coming from the engine. But there was nothing broken. »

The Italian director believes that this error from the Monegasque, the second of the season after Imola, will help him for the next Grand Prix. “I’m sure he’ll learn.” We have always seen that Charles reacts very well when he makes mistakes. And I'm pretty sure he will be back in Hungary even stronger and motivated. » With the victory of Max Verstappen at Castellet, Charles Leclerc is now relegated to 63 points behind the Dutchman. We will have to react urgently in Budapest to maintain a chance for the title.
