BMW wants to finish in style

At BMW-Sauber, the situation is not idyllic. Drivers and engineers know that, in all likelihood and unless a takeover of the team keeps them afloat, they will compete in their last races together. However, BMW wants to finish this season honorably, which, for the moment, has brought only frustration and disappointments. But, as the European Grand Prix approaches, the drivers remain optimistic, starting with Robert Kubica. “ I really like the Valencia circuit. I like the “stop and go” side of this track. In Valencia you have a lot of long straights, followed by tight corners, then leading into another long straight. »

However, the challenge is significant for a car which impressed neither on the fast circuits nor on the slow circuits. And we can doubt the motivation of a team which it knows is at the end of its road. Mario Theissen readily admits that the disappointment is palpable within the ranks of the team. “ IIt is clear that we are all disappointed with (BMW's) decision to withdraw from the Formula 1. The team has risen to the top itself in three years, and we would like to show that this year?s results were just accidental. »

If BMW withdraws from F1, the fate of the team Hinwil, which can still be bought back in order to continue in the category, is not sealed. “ Efforts continue behind the scenes to find a solution for the team, confirms Mario Theissen, director of BMW Motorsport. Everyone is aware that achieving good performances in the coming months is the best advertisement of the team?s capabilities. In this sense, the developments planned for Valencia and Singapore will be introduced as planned. »

For his part, Nick Heidfeld expects a lot from these developments. “II'm waiting to see what effect the modifications made recently to the car will have. » And, if his car is not more efficient, the German driver will find satisfaction in going to Spain. “ Valencia is a great city, I can't wait to find the restaurant I discovered during my last visit. »
