Valtteri Bottas set the best time at Monza on the first day of testing for the Italian GP. The pilot Mercedes completed a lap in 1’21”406 ahead of his teammate by 6 hundredths Lewis Hamilton. The hierarchy at the forefront is respected with the Ferrari and Red Bull in ambush, Sebastian Vettel being the closest to the W08 with a little more than a tenth behind the reference.
The McLaren are well placed with Stoffel Vandoorne 7th ahead of his teammate Fernando Alonso. Esteban Ocon (Force India) and Felipe Massa (Williams) complete the top ten ahead Carlos Sainz Jr. (Toro Rosso) victim of a motor problem during the session. THE Renault de Nico Hulkenberg and Jolyon Palmer follow the first STR12 ahead of Sergio Pérez (Force India) who is more than 3 tenths behind his teammate.
Lance stroll (Williams) ranks 15th ahead of Haas de Romain Grosjean et Kevin Magnussen forced to dismount victim of a broken suspension. Daniil Kvyat (Toro Rosso) finished ahead of the Saubers of Marcus Ericsson and Pascal Wehrlein.
