Bottas steals pole from Hamilton at Imola, Gasly 4th

As is often the case this season, pole position was a close call between the drivers. Mercedes. For the 4th time this year, it's Valtteri Bottas who had the last word by setting a time of 1'13''609. To get ahead of his neighbor in the garage, the Finn “makes a Hamilton ". After being beaten by his six-time world champion teammate in free practice, he struck when it counted most and took the 15th pole position of his career by 0.

Behind the untouchable Mercedes duo, we find the inevitable Max Verstappen on board his Red Bull. The Dutchman, who encountered problems earlier in the session, was not able to break the hegemony of the W11s.

Sunday afternoon, Verstappen will be accompanied on the 2nd row by a sparkling Pierre Gasly, more than ever in the shape of his life behind the wheel of his Alpha Tauri. 4th in the only free session of the weekend, the Frenchman confirms his good abilities with the same rank in qualifying.

Daniel Ricciardo does more than limit damage to Renault with a nice 5th time to credit the Australian. It precedes Alexander albon, who made up for it after the stewards erased his first flying lap in Q3 for non-compliance with the track limits. The Thai, who is currently playing for his future at Red Bull, finished 6th.

Charles Leclerc grabs the 7th time to Ferrari, while Daniil Kvyat confirms the good performances of AlphaTauri on a circuit located a stone's throw from its factory in Faenza (Italy). The Russian, whose future F1 is written in dotted lines, remove the 8th beat, in front of the McLaren de Lando Norris et Carlos Sainz.

Disappointment for the Racing Point, dashing since the start of the season. Sergio Pérez fails at the gates of the Top 10, while Lance stroll must settle for 15th time, just behind his future teammate Sebastian Vettel, disappointing again at Ferrari.

George Russell fully justifies his stay at Williams in 2021 with an 8th appearance in Q2 this season. The Briton qualifies 13th, one place behind a Esteban Ocon (Renault) discreet.

No surprises in Q1 with the elimination of the drivers HaasRomain Grosjean is 16th, one place ahead Kevin Magnussen. Follows Kimi Räikkönen for Alfa Romeo, While Nicholas latifi (Williams) and Antonio Giovinazzi (Alfa Romeo) will occupy the last row of the grid.
