Bottas steals pole from Hamilton at Silverstone, Hülkenberg 3rd

Unsurprisingly, the Mercedes lock the first row but it is the Finn who gets the last word this time.

Bottas steals pole from Hamilton at Silverstone, Hülkenberg 3rd

This is not the beginning of the revolt but it is a stirring. While Lewis Hamilton was heading for a new pole position at Silverstone and career, Valtteri Bottas came to remind his six-time world champion teammate that he had not yet given up

At the end of a perfectly controlled final lap in Q3, on medium tires what's more, the Finn snatches the best time from the master of the place by 63 thousandths of a second.

Behind the Silver Arrows which became black in 2020, there is a new chronometric gap. But on the other side, we find, not without a certain pleasure, Nico Hulkenberg, who replaces Sergio Pérez at Racing Point for a second weekend in a row and joins the leading trio.

The German precedes the Red Bull de Max Verstappen, 4th, as well as his former teammate Daniel Ricciardo, author of a very solid performance for Renault. The second Mercedes pink, that of Lance stroll, ranks 6th.

Pierre Gasly confirms his good abilities on a circuit that he particularly likes. The pilot Alpha Tauri takes the 7th time, ahead of the best ranked Ferrari, that of Charles Leclerc. Alexander albon, 9th, continues to suffer from the comparison with his teammate but he manages to get his Red Bull into Q3. Lando Norris completes the Top 10 at the end of a session that was complicated to say the least for McLaren.

Esteban Ocon stops at the gates of the Top 10. The Renault driver is also under investigation by the stewards for having hampered George Russell in Q1. The Frenchman expects to have to move back 3 places on the grid. In the meantime, he remains in 11th position.

The misfortunes of Sebastian Vettel at Silverstone continue. After a very complicated first weekend on British soil, the four-time German world champion did not make it through to Q1, even after putting on Soft tires. The German, modest 3th, is ahead of his successor at Maranello, Carlos Sainz. This is the first time this season that a McLaren has missed the mark in the final phase of qualifying.

George Russell appears in Q2 for the 4th time in a row with his Williams but must be satisfied with 15th time, while Romain Grosjean comes away with honors by setting the 14th time at the wheel of his Haas.

Daniil Kvyat had ample means to escape from Q1 but his best lap was eliminated by the stewards due to non-compliance with the track limits.

The Russian from AlphaTauri is accompanied in the cart by Haas from Kevin Magnussen and the Williams of Nicholas latifi, While the difficult season Alfa Romeo keep on going. Antonio Giovinazzi and Kimi Räikkönen will occupy the last row on the grid on Sunday, unless a penalty pushes one of their competitors to the back of the pack.
