Some engine manufacturers, notably Cosworth, Ferrari et Mercedes, have complained to the FIA ​​about the increase in costs that the new 4-cylinder 1,6 liter turbo engines will generate through their development and marketing. Jean Todt, the president of the FIA, then suggested that the 2013 season could be an opportunity to see the new engines evolve alongside the current V8s.

But this proposal does not seem to suit Eric Boullier, director of Lotus-Renault GP. “ To be honest, I don't see the current V8s alongside the four cylinders », admits Eric Boullier on Autosport. “ This idea is too extreme. The equivalence of engines would be a real nightmare and a real headache for the FIA. »
