Boullier: The Lotuses are dependent on the weather

Si Romain Grosjean reached Q3 yesterday in Montreal for the seventh time this season, the Frenchman could only take seventh place while his teammate Kimi Räikkönen had to settle for 12th position following a differential problem. Eric Boullier, Team Principal of the British team, admits that the E20s are in more difficulty on the Gilles Villeneuve circuit since the temperatures have changed. The team had refined the settings of the single-seaters while waiting for cooler conditions which are lacking today even if the black and gold single-seaters are more comfortable in hot conditions.

“This is one of our worst qualifications since the start of the season”, recognizes Eric Boullier before the start of the Canadian Grand Prix. “Our objective since the beginning of the year is to have a car well balanced and very easy to ride and we never managed to find the right grip this weekend. This is why the drivers made some small mistakes while trying to push the limits of the car and could not achieve a clean lap. And with gaps of less than a tenth, that costs a lot of places on the grid. We are focusing on race setup due to the parc ferme system. Our team has built a very good car that keeps its tires well, but it is true that we find ourselves in difficulty in the race when we do not have the right temperatures because we have to anticipate the weather. It becomes complicated when you want to pass your qualifications and the weather changes from one day to the next. »
