Boullier: “We are going to use the F-duct”

Renault F1 Team, like Red Bull Racing this weekend, should soon be able to test his F-duct on the track. The team based at enstone has been working for several weeks to refine this system and integrate it in the best possible way on the R30. Eric Boullier confides that the most important challenge is not to disrupt the general aerodynamics of the car, Renault having proven its know-how in this area since the start of the season.

« We have a slightly different development strategy from the other teams but I can tell you that the F-duct will soon be tested, declares the team manager of the Renault team to AUTOhebdo.fr. We will use it quickly but we also have other projects as part of aggressive development. » Thus, Renault F1 Team is continuing its development logic, namely improving each sector of the car as the races progress, without putting all its potential for improvement into the system which makes it possible to eliminate part of the aero downforce in a straight line.

Eric Boullier also confides that the F-duct, if it can prove advantageous, must be ideally integrated into the car so as not to erase the first qualities of the R30. “ Our engine cover is not connected to the rear wing so putting an F-duct on the car leads to further complications in terms of aerodynamics, which led us to rethink the rear wing. And, regarding our F-duct, we want to make sure it works 100% before putting it in place. »
