Boullier: Renault as an outsider

Eric Boullier advances with caution, while Renault renewed a lot of things within his stable over the winter. The main team, satisfied with the pre-season tests, knows that the team is now off to a good start and hopes that the R30 is close to the single-seaters of the leading teams, even if he does not really know where to place it on a hierarchical plan.

« It was very difficult to understand and analyze the data from the winter tests and to compare ourselves with the other teams because we don't know how they approached these tests., explains Boullier. We made the decision to run with a lot of fuel on board because we believe that this is the best way to understand and improve the car. In terms of pure performance, I hope we are close to the teams at the front of the pack. »

In addition, the boss ofenstone is convinced that the Renault R30 is born well and that it presents no major defects. “ We had to make some small changes to get the drivers more comfortable in the car but they are happy with the overall balance and the way it responds to set-up changes. During the Jerez tests, we found an almost perfect balance. Both drivers found the car easy to drive and they were confident. This has always been the priority and is a good basis for the development of the R30 during the season. »

In addition, Eric Boullier is very satisfied with the fact that Robert Kubica, Renault recruit F1 Team, or a driver who is extremely committed to the work of the team. “ We are delighted to have Robert among us. He is a committed pilot who has a great sense of responsibility. His commitment to work, his integrity at all levels, are a pleasure to see. During testing, he was still on the circuit. He worked late into the evening, analyzed data and was 100% available to the team; it?s just what we need. »

Before tackling the Bahrain Grand Prix, Eric Boullier makes a reasonable prediction for the first meeting of the season. If it does not set a final position objective for the race, the main team still hopes to see the two R30s advance to Q3 on Saturday. “ I have an ideal result in mind, but I have to find a balance between my hopes and reality. If we could get both cars into the top 10 in qualifying and finish the race, it would be a great way to start the season. »
