Brawn: Don't judge Mercedes before FIA

Mercedes AMG F1 will pass in front the FIA International Tribunal to explain the tests carried out with Pirelli in Barcelona, the point of the matter lying in the operation of the W04 and the titular drivers. Ross Brawn broke his silence and tried as best he could to free his team from the pressure caused by these tests which could result in a heavy sanction for the star manufacturer. “My personal opinion is that people will be able to make a judgment when the facts are determined (by the International Tribunal). We thought we would be able to carry out tests with Pirelli. It was a Pirelli test, I would like to point out that. They were unfortunately referred to as secret tests even though it was a private session. »

Ross Brawn evaded most questions regarding the tests by asking to wait for the decision of the FIA International Tribunal. However, the Mercedes AMG F1 Team Principal clarified that he himself had made the decision to carry out this test session. “It was my decision to do these tests and I did not choose this because of our performance on the track (in Barcelona). We were all worried about the delamination phenomenon, but it had nothing to do with the performance of the car. When it comes to drivers, there is no control or limitation on who we should put in the car, except for the young pilot tests. So it was natural to use the drivers we had. I will not hide that the team is a little distracted by this matter, but we are managing the situation as best we can. 99% of our staff remains focused on our performance, and 1% including myself manages the situation with the Pirelli testing affair. »
