Briatore: “Alonso was tired of the usual refrain”

Fernando Alonso chose to return to McLaren despite a difficult first experience in 2007, but the double world champion needed this change after five unsuccessful seasons within the Team Ferrari. The Asturian suffered from the domination of Sebastian Vettel and Red Bull but also the sluggish development of F1 of Maranello and preferred to put an end to the adventure to give way to the German.

Flavio Briatore has followed the career of Fernando Alonso for many years. The Italian believes that the departure of the Spaniard had been considered for a while. “It was an agreement made with Montezemolo. If the car (the F14 T) was not yet up to standard, “adios”. There was only a handshake left to give. Fernando was tired of the usual refrain : "You'll see, the next one will be a winning car", commented the former director of Renault F1 Team in the Gazzetta dello Sport.
