Briatore: Alonso will respect his contract with McLaren

Flavio Briatore spoke in Gazzetta dello Sport to respond to speculation about Nico Rosberg being replaced by Fernando Alonso in Mercedes GP. The former director of Renault F1 Team which now manages the career of the double world champion has assured that its protégé will respect his contract with McLaren-Honda which extends until the end of 2017 even if the Woking team is going through a difficult period since the arrival of the Japanese engine manufacturer.

“How can we explain that Fernando is always mentioned as soon as a steering wheel becomes available? Regardless, there is a contract and we will respect it”, assured Flavio Briatore.

Fernando Alonso had however broken his contract which linked him to the Team Ferrari to join McLaren in 2015.

“The situation was different because we had an agreement with Montezemolo (the former president of Ferrari), specified Flavio Briatore. We were free to leave if we didn't win the title in 2014. Luca kept his promise. It is true that Mattiacci (the former Team Principal of Scuderia Ferrari) offered us a three-season extension, but we refused it. »
