Button approaches Abu Dhabi as his final race

Jenson Button does indeed have a contract allowing him to race in 2018, after a year 2017 where the Briton will take a step back with McLaren, but this Abu Dhabi Grand Prix could look like the last for the 2009 world champion in the discipline.

This was revealed by Button during the drivers' press conference this Thursday at the Yas Marina Circuit. « I'm going into this weekend thinking it will be my last race, explains the main person concerned.

Right now I don't want to run Formula 1 beyond this race, that's the idea. I think this is my last race. It's true that I have a contract for 2018, but at the moment I don't think I will be racing in 2018."

If Button has already stated that he wants to try his hand at rallycross, or hope to compete 24 Hours of Le Mans, the pilot McLaren also conceded the reasons for signing such a contract with the Woking team.

“The idea of this contract was that in three months, after going around in circles, and thinking about things to do in the future, I will feel that I need Formula 1 in my life. Today, that is not the case. This is my last race. That’s what I think, but who knows, it could change in six months or a year…”
